Riverdale High School students are bringing an OpenSource Lab
to this year's NECC conference in
Seattle. The lab will be open to teachers all week for checking e-mail
and Internet access. We're also planning a wide range of OpenSource
software demonstrations.
- OFSET
- Freeduc: Complete Linux on a CD-Rom with plenty of educational
applications. Everything runs from the CD. No installation required.
- ClusterKnoppix:
We'll turn our lab into an instant openMosix cluster for some high
power computing. The best part is that we'll do it all from a single
CD-Rom in less than 5 minutes.
- Digital
Photography and the Gimp: We'll be showing off our OpenSource
curriculum for digital photo classes. If you aren't using the GIMP in your art classes start here to see
what you're missing.
- OpenOffice: Free is a
great price for this awesome program. Make copies. Give it away to your
students and teachers. It works. It's free. Duh... ;-^)

 Current Status:
It's Wednesday and this is our last day. We're burning our last CD's to
give away and there are several important presentations today. We'll be
leaving at 3:00 to come back to Portland. So far, this trip has been a
big success. The kids are tired but in good spirits. They work from 8-5
and by the end of they day they're ready for some dinner and fun.
