From K12LTSP Wiki
K12LTSP is provided via ISO image files which you download and then burn to CD or DVD.
Difference between versions 5-EL and 6/7: The regular K12LTSP releases are based on Fedora Core and Fedora Core has a very short life cycle. But there are also EL (Enterprise Linux) versions of K12LTSP, which are based on CentOS (which in turn is a Red Hat Enterprise Linux clone). The current version is K12LTSP 5EL, which is based on CentOS 5. CentOS has a supported lifetime of 7 years (compared to Fedora's ~1 year).
Here are links to ISO files for recent versions of K12LTSP from the primary repository:
- Version 5-EL is based on CentOS 5, which is a recompile of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, and LTSP 4.2. Support for CentOS 5 should run through 2014.
- Version 5-EL, 32-bit, CD
- Version 5-EL, 32-bit, DVD
- Version 5-EL, 64-bit, CD
- Version 5-EL, 64-bit, DVD
- Please note: at least one user reported the 64 bit iso was too large too burn onto DVD
- Bit torrent for 5EL 32bit CDs and DVD and 64bit DVD. This torrent should remain active. Seeders welcome!
- Version 6 is based on Fedora Core 6 and LTSP 4.2. Support for FC6 ended Dec. 31, 2007, although many schools still use this version of K12LTSP.
- There is a beta of version 7, based on Fedora 7 and LTSP 4.2. This version may not reach final release as it may be superseded by the incorporation of K12LTSP into the Fedora Project.
- The K12LTSP/Edubuntu live CD replicates what users see on K12LTSP thin clients. 'Live CD' means that Linux boots and runs from the CD without touching whatever is already installed on the hard drive. Great for letting users explore K12LTSP on their own machines on their own time. Also known as the 'K12LTSP Greatest Hits CD'. For x86 only. Based on Edubuntu 7.04.
- The Universal Boot Floppy, for booting PC clients that don't have built-in network boot mechanisms. Works with most network cards.
- Here are a couple of mirrors:
- Use rsync if you already have K12LTSP ISO images to update them. See also RH9 ISO to LTSP ISOs in a few simple lines
- Here are a couple of bit torrent trackers for version 6 and 5EL. These may or may not be active.
- One user has made the ISO files available through shareaza. If you use shareaza, just search for the files and download.
